Super Pandas Poster!

Hey guys! Just made a new poster featuring all of my Super Pandas! I’m going to be bringing these with me to Fan Expo Canada and Rose City Comic Con. I’ll also have premium giclee prints on my shop.  Get ’em while they’re hot!

Super Panda Commissions

Just finished up a batch of commissions for my good friend Kevin.  He’s a big fan of the Super Pandas, so I hope you enjoy these as much as I enjoyed making them. Cheers!

Fan Expo Canada Pre-Commission Slots are now OPEN!

Hey everyone! It’s time for pre-commissions! I’ll be attending Fan Expo Canada at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, September 3-6. I haven’t received my table assignment yet, but check back to this post next week for an update.

You can sign up for pre-commissions by emailing me at “punchingpandasart” on Gmail. Please review my submission guidelines here, and make sure you follow the directions otherwise I will not accept them.

As a special promotion for Fan Expo, all prices for pre-commissions for Fan Expo Canada will be in CAD. This will only apply to pre-commissions that will be delivered at Fan Expo. Here’s a rundown of the prices:

  • OPTION 1: 11×17 color giclee print on matte paper – starting at $100 CAD, additional characters – starting at $30 CAD each.
  • OPTION 2: 9×12 BW sumi ink original with wash on watercolor paper – starting at $50 CAD, additional characters – starting at $15 CAD each.
  • OPTION 3: 5×7 BW sumi ink original with wash on watercolor paper – starting at $30 CAD, additional characters – starting at $10 CAD each.

Please contact me at “punchingpandasart” on Gmail. At this time, commissions for Fan Expo Canada will take priority over non-Fan Expo commissions. If you are interested in a commission but are not attending Fan Expo to pick it up, I will get to those as soon as I return to the States. I will also have a follow-up post for those of you attending Rose City Comic Con in Portland. Stay tuned!

Looking forward to seeing all you Torontonians! It’s gonna be fun!

Cheers,

Nolen

Las Vegas sketches

Here are a couple sketches I made during my weekend trip to Las Vegas, or more like during my flight back home from Vegas. Unfortunately, I didn’t have my sketchbook with me when I visited Red Rocks Canyon. Next time, next time…

Super Mario Panda

Continuing the video game trend from last night. Original art and print available at my shop.

Megapanda

From last night’s Periscope Pandacast! Original art and print available at my shop.

Egg Tart Panda

Egg tart panda sketch from this morning’s Periscope Pandacast. The original sketch and print are available on the shop. I’m still adjusting my schedule for the Periscope broadcasts, probably limiting them to Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with some spontaneous broadcasts when I have the spare time. Man, now I’m hungry for egg tarts again…

New Punching Pandas site!

Hey everyone, it’s a brand new website! I had to shut down the site for the past couple of days to make the changes. Hopefully you’ll like the new look!

There’s a new portfolio section under the “Work” menu item which has samples of the latest and greatest. I also have a section specific to the Punching Pandas that better organizes all of my panda art to date.

I also made some changes to the shop. The last storefront I was using only limited me to 25 products. Now I’ll be able to offer as many products as I would like including original art and prints of existing art. If there’s a piece of art you’d like a print of, you can email me with your request.

There will be more updates to the site in the future, but for now I’m happy with the changes. Cheers!

Periscope Pandas

I found out about this new app called Periscope that lets you use your phone to broadcast video from anywhere. I’ve been using it to broadcast some of my morning sketches, and it has been a cool way for me to interact with my audience. Download it and check me out at my Twitter handle, @punchingpandas, to catch a little behind-the-scenes action!

The balloon panda above was the first drawing I finished in my last Pandacast. I also managed to finish an Ant-Panda riding Antony. Look forward to catching you at the next Pandacast!

Pandamonium: Urban Brawl (Revisited)

When I was preparing to display my art at Cafe Cesura, I was planning on including the four Pandamonium: Urban Brawl pieces from my Pandamonium show. But there was something that didn’t sit well inside of me about those pieces. For one thing, the pieces were incomplete. In the days leading up to my Pandamonium show, I was scrambling to complete the PUB pieces before I had to send them to the printer. I even pulled an all-nighter the day before to get the piece to a respectable level.

Even though the piece got a good reception, I still wasn’t completely happy with the piece. I expressed my thoughts to Olwen, and she suggested I touch it up a bit, but I knew it wasn’t going to be just a touch-up. It was going to take me a lot of time, A LOT of time. But I was going to do it.

In order to finish on time, I had to economize the way I worked. That meant creating more custom brushes for the buildings and the trees. But the pandas and all the broken windows were done by hand, there’s no cutting and pasting there. In my first Pandamonium piece, I knew I had 500 pandas; in this one, I lost count.

A few weeks later, here’s the final product. I still have it printed in four separate pieces in case someone wanted to take home a smaller portion, but I do plan on printing the whole thing at once eventually. I can probably still work some more on this piece, but I’m completely satisfied with how it turned out.

Art in Cafe Cesura

Hey everybody! Just want to let you all know that I am displaying my art at Cafe Cesura for the month of June. Come swing by, grab a coffee, and enjoy (cough… cough… BUY) some art! Cheers!

Patreon Page is live!

Hey everyone, I’m pleased to announce that I have launched my Patreon page.  For those of you unfamiliar with Patreon, it’s similar to Kickstarter, but on a smaller scale. Instead of pledging a large amount to fund a large project, Patreon is more like a subscription service, allowing you the patron to pledge towards supporting the artist.

You can pledge as little as $1/mth to support me. All final pieces will be viewable to the public regardless of whether you pledge or not, but higher pledges will have access to the exclusive content. In exchange for their pledges, patrons will receive access to behind-the-scenes material for my art including WIP sketches, paintings, and even time-lapse videos of my digital paintings.

If you are wondering why the rewards are not immediately available for download, it’s to insure that the rewards will go towards those who are true supporters. At the end of each month after the pledges clear, I will post a link that will be available to patrons to download the rewards for one week.

For those of you wondering, I will still post time-lapse videos on my YouTube channel for free, but I will not be posting all of my videos. In order to view all of my videos, you can make a pledge on my Patreon page.

I’m excited about trying out this platform and look forward to sharing my work with you all. Have a great rest of the week!

Cheers!
